D+ J | August Wedding at Cherry Creek Falls

Filed in The Galleries — September 29, 2025

Some love stories unfold in chapters — and Danielle and John’s was one of those beautifully layered celebrations. Instead of following tradition, they crafted their own path: beginning with an intimate elopement on the beaches of Hawaii, then later gathering loved ones for a sun-soaked summer reception in Washington. Captured through a blend of editorial artistry and documentary storytelling, their day was a seamless reflection of everything they value — intention, authenticity, and style.

This two-part celebration combined intimacy and community in the most meaningful way — first exchanging vows privately where the ocean meets the sand, and then gathering everyone who mattered most at Cherry Creek Falls Event Center in Duvall, Washington to celebrate. It was the perfect combination of a romantic elopement and a heartfelt reception, and documenting it was an absolute joy.

A Reception Surrounded by Nature

The August day began at 2pm under bright sunshine, with towering trees surrounding the venue and offering natural shade that gave the reception space a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The team did a beautiful job preparing — from appetizers being plated to the final touches of décor coming together.

Touches of gold, white and cream linens, and espresso-colored wood tables created an elegant yet natural look. At the center of it all stood a stunning three-tier white wedding cake adorned with red roses, as timeless as it was romantic.

Getting Ready + A Dress with History

Before the reception began, Danielle slipped into a wedding dress she had purchased two years earlier — a dress that fit her perfectly, almost as if it had been waiting for this very day. Seeing her step into the dress with light pouring in felt cinematic, and her smile said everything: this was her moment.

After getting ready, Danielle and John shared a few quiet moments together outside. The sun illuminated her gown in the grass near the venue, making it glow as though it had been painted by light.

Portraits with Their Dogs

No story of Danielle and John would be complete without their two dogs, Tina and Bandit. Always attached to her side, they were a huge part of the day, and of course we included them in portraits. Photographing the couple with their pups created some of the most heartfelt images — playful, sweet, and completely authentic.

Danielle’s emerald green and diamond ring caught the light in every frame, a striking detail that added even more personality to their portraits. This is what I love most about wedding photography: capturing not just the big moments, but the small, meaningful details that tell the story of who a couple truly is.

A Celebration of Cars, Community, and Connection

Beyond their love for each other, Danielle and John share another passion: cars. Both are car enthusiasts, with John being especially talented at drifting — a skill his friends know well. To honor this part of their lives, they invited their car community to bring their vehicles to the reception.

The result? A full lineup of cars parked side by side, creating an unforgettable backdrop and a reflection of who they are as a couple. It wasn’t just décor — it was part of their story. Seeing the cars lined up, polished and gleaming in the August sun, added a layer of personality to the day that made it uniquely theirs. It’s not something you see at every wedding, but it fit them perfectly.

A Celebration with Family and Friends

After portraits, Danielle and John mingled with their guests before making their grand entrance — complete with sparklers lighting the way. From there, the evening flowed into dinner and heartfelt speeches. Every toast, every laugh, every tear was a reminder of why a reception matters so much, even after an intimate elopement.

It’s not about formality. It’s about bringing everyone together, giving your loved ones a chance to celebrate alongside you, and creating memories that go beyond the ceremony itself.

Why a Two-Part Celebration is So Special

There’s something powerful about separating your vows and your celebration. Eloping first gave Danielle and John the space to focus completely on each other — no distractions, just their love story on the shores of Hawaii. Then, with the pressure of the “big day” behind them, they could fully enjoy their Washington reception, relaxed and surrounded by the people they love most.

This approach is becoming more popular in modern elopement and wedding photography, and for good reason: it allows couples to have both — intimacy and community, privacy and celebration. And when the photos come together, it tells a complete story that feels cinematic and timeless.

A Story as Unique as Their Love

Danielle and John’s wedding was proof that there’s no one “right” way to celebrate. Whether you choose an elopement, a traditional wedding, or a mix of both, what matters most is that your day reflects you.

It was an honor to document this chapter of their story — from Danielle’s glowing gown in the sunlight, to portraits with their dogs, the sparkler entrance, heartfelt speeches, and the cars lined up as a tribute to their shared passion.

Their love story began on a Hawaiian beach and continued in Washington under the trees — with family, friends, and their love for cars all playing a role. Through the lens of wedding photography, it’s a story that will always live on.
